Taiwan Ocean Research Institute (TORI) was established 2008, as one of the eight centers of NARLabs which specifically devotes to the research, development, education of ocean science and technology. TORI's missions are to provide basic infrastructure and facilities needed by the research communities both domestically and internationally. Core services include ocean-meteorology buoy, sediment traps, coastal ocean dynamics radar, remotely operated vehicle (ROV), ocean bottom seismometer (OBS), piston core, and the research vessel Legend (R/V Legend).
As an island surrounded by the ocean, the deep cultivation of marine science and technology research and development is the cornerstone of Taiwan’s sustainable development. The government’s vision is “Blue Revolution: How the Ocean Prospers Our Nation”. The purpose of this vision is to develop and implement nationally funded world class ocean marine technology projects.
